There are many ways to design and build fixtures. Completely custom built tools that use ‘grind down’ or ‘add’ blocks to achieve fit-up to actual production parts is a tedious, slow and expensive process. Since the formation of NAAMS (North American Automotive Manufacturing Standards), it is preferable to design fixtures that use NAAMS L-Blocks with XYZ adjustability already built in - by the use of readily available, standard or metric hole pattern shim packs. When used in combination with our standard toggle clamp (that has the NAAMS mounting pattern found on all four sides of the clamp), tool design is simplified, costs less, and is easier adjust and maintain. A full range of NAAMS compliant standardized automation/fixture components is now available from Wayne Trail Technologies.
